PESHAWAR: Aug 18, 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has ordered all winter zone schools to close from August 19 to 25, 2025. The move follows warnings of cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides in the province.
Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarkai issued the directive on Monday. He said the step aims to protect students and staff in vulnerable districts. Classes will continue online or at home during the closure. Teachers have been told to assign work and keep students engaged.
Areas such as Upper and Lower Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Shangla face the highest risks. Residents have welcomed the decision but raised concerns over weak internet access in remote valleys. The provincial government said it will monitor the situation closely and adjust the order if weather conditions change.
