ISLAMABAD, August 3, 2025 —Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif voiced strong support for Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes during a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who arrived in Islamabad on his first official visit yesterday.
Sharif affirmed that every sovereign state, including Iran, has the right to pursue civilian nuclear technology. He called for greater regional cooperation, mutual respect, and solidarity amid ongoing tensions.
The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including economic ties, security cooperation, and cultural and religious relations. They signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and committed to boosting bilateral trade to $10 billion.
Sharif condemned Israel’s recent attacks on Iran and its continued assault on Gaza. He urged the international community to raise its voice against these actions and compared the situation in Gaza to the oppression in occupied Kashmir.
President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its warm reception and described the country as Iran’s “second home.”
He praised Pakistan’s firm stance against Israeli aggression and stressed the need for stronger unity among Muslim nations.
He outlined Iran’s plans to deepen trade relations with Pakistan, establish joint economic zones, and enhance border security. Pezeshkian accused Israel of destabilizing the region and called for a collective push toward peace and development.
