ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police have formally submitted challan in the murder case of Chitrali social media influencer Sana Yousaf.
According to the official investigation report available with ChitralToday, 22-year-old Umar Hayat has been named as the prime accused in the murder. Sana was shot dead at her Islamabad residence in G-13 on June 2, 2025. The alleged killer was arrested within 20 hours of the incident from Faisalabad with the murder weapon and victim’s mobile phone recovered from him.
Key Evidence and Confession Support Prosecution
Police based the charges against Umar Hayat on eyewitness accounts, including statements from Sana’s mother and maternal aunt, as well as a confessional statement recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Authorities believe this evidence strongly supports the prosecution\’s case.
IGP Islamabad stated that the suspect took Sana’s mobile phone after the murder in an attempt to destroy crucial digital evidence. Extensive investigations included raids at over 11 locations across three cities. Geo-fencing technology and CCTV footage helped trace Umar Hayat’s escape route from Islamabad to Faisalabad, aiding his arrest.
Background of the Suspect and Incident
Sources close to the investigation revealed that Umar Hayat, son of a retired grade-16 officer, had known Sana for about a year. He had unsuccessfully tried to meet her on her birthday (May 28–29). The two agreed to meet again on June 2. When Sana refused to come outside her home, Umar forcibly entered her residence, and shot her dead and escaped .

The brutal killing of Sana Yousaf shocked her native Chitral valley and the wider Pakistani community. The police described the case as a severe test for law enforcement and expressed confidence that the strong evidence will lead to Umar Hayat’s conviction.
With the challan now submitted, the formal trial process is set to begin. The government has repeatedly assured the Sana\’s family that a dedicated team of lawyers will pursue the case to hand down punishment to the killer and provide justice to the family.
