Efforts ongoing to boost police-public ties: SDPO

CHITRAL: On the directives of District Police Officer (DPO) Lower Chitral Iftikhar Shah, a series of meetings with members of Public Liaison Committees are being held across various police circles to strengthen ties between the police and the public.

As part of this initiative to remove police-public trust gap, a special session was convened at Drosh Police Station under the supervision of SDPO Drosh Iqbal Karim. The meeting was attended by SHO Drosh Police Station SI Bulbul Hassan and members of the Public Liaison Committee, said a press statement issued by the DPO office.

Speaking on the occasion, SDPO Karim said the primary objective of these meetings was to reduce the communication gap between the police and the public.

“The police is your own institution; you can approach us without hesitation for the resolution of your problems,” he said.

Highlighting the sensitivity of the Drosh region due to its proximity to the Afghan border, he underscored the importance of public cooperation with local law enforcement agencies in ensuring peace and stability, especially in light of the current national security situation.

He stated that operations were underway against drug dealers, and no leniency will be shown against them. The local police, he added, are also committed to cracking down on those involved in moral and social crimes.

During the meeting, committee members raised several local concerns, including difficulties faced by commuters and locals due to increased water flow in streams near Kotka Gol and the Arandu area along the Chitral-Peshawar road. They also called for legal action against non-local street vendors operating in residential areas.

Responding to the concerns, SDPO Karim assured the participants that all highlighted issues would be conveyed to the heads of relevant departments through the DPO Lower Chitral.

The committee members lauded the performance of the local police and pledged their full support in maintaining law and order, protecting the youth from drug abuse, and curbing other societal crimes.
