Well, if I will ask you who is corrupt? What will come to your mind first? I am pretty sure that you have thought about a politician, bureaucrat, or any other officer. But if you will ask me the same question, my answer will definitely be, WE. You will ask why? Or your question will be, How you can say that? But if you ponder and relate events happened to you, similar to the one I’m going to share below, you will definitely agree with me.
Recently, we had a competition of essay writing on the topic of corruption. To prepare ourselves for that competition we were given one week. And throughout that week, I watched videos on Youtube and tried to collect as much information as I could about corruption like what corruption really means? How it is done? What are its kinds? At the end, I comprehended that corruption is any kind of illegal action and dishonest behavior.
Now if you’re why I’m sharing all this, here is the reason. Today I bought wood for my home as the weather of Chitral has become unbearable nowadays without fire. The market I bought wood from is almost at a distance of five minutes’ walk from home. To bring them home I booked a Suzuki as I thought the driver will charge somewhere between 150 to 250 rupees. If you think how I knew the charges I will want to tell you that only 20 days before when I bought the same amount of wood in a more distant market the driver only charged 400 rupees. But here I made a mistake. I didn’t finalize the price in the market. Everything was fine till we reached home and I asked the driver about his charges and the answer was absolutely shocking – 600 rupees. I didn’t find a way but had to pay the price. It’s not the first time I have encountered this sort of situation. In a life of less than two decades, I have witnessed many situations like this.
It’s not about the money or its not about I had to pay 100 or 200 rupees extra, it’s about our moral values. With this sort of behavior, do we have the right to criticize politicians. And we can witness this behavior in every field and sector. If we continue to show this sort of behavior what kind of lesson will we deliver to the young generation. If anyone is expecting a bright future with this sort of behavior, I am sorry to say he is living in a fools paradise. In order to eliminate corruption, we first need to accept the fact that it lies in our roots, then we have to try our best to eliminate it. If we managed to eliminate it at the grassroots level, it will become much more easier to eliminate it at the higher levels.
I truely agree with u . Keep up the good work ✨
