Activists start seed planting to increase forest cover
BOONI: A group of environment activists planted seeds of different tree species in Booni Gol mountain to help tackle the deforestation issues.
Rehmat Ali Jaffar Dost, who heads an environment protection society called CHEPS, told Chitral Today that they plan to sow over 150 kg of seeds of different indigenous species in the mountain to help increase forest cover and check flooding.
He said the drive in this regard was initiated at Ghoru, about three hours’ trekking from Booni, with the environment activists led by nazim Salamat Khan and Sajjad Ali sowing about 70 kg seeds of different species such as juniper and a variety of rose on the mountain.
Mr Dost added that overgrazing and deforestation were adding to the climate-induced issues such as flooding and landsliding and communities could play a role by conservation of environment and planting more trees.
