20 convicts of May 9 violence cases released
ISLAMABAD: As many as 20 PTI activists sentenced to one year’s imprisonment in the May 9 cases have been released before the Supreme Court could decide on their appeals.
The release was made after army chief Gen Asim Munir announced ti remit their sentences, according to a report submitted to the Supreme Court by the attorney general of Pakistan.
The PTI activists belonging to Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Mardan and Dir had been sentenced to one year in jail by military courts.
Four of the convicts belonged to KP while all other 16 were from Punjab. They were released in the province of KP and Punjab on April 7 and 6, respectively.
On the direction of the Supreme Court, their release was expedited to enable them to celebrate Eidul Fitr with their families.
