Reserved seat assembly members hold protest

PESHAWAR: A group of new women and minority reserved seat members of KP assembly held a protest outside the Peshawar press club on Friday against the KP government’s refusal to administer oath to them.
The protesters chanted slogans against the government. Describing the denial of oath-taking as an abuse of government’s power, they reiterated their demand for justice. They said despite court orders and directives from the Election Commission, the new reserved seat members were being kept out of the assembly.
It may be noted that the PTI-backed majority members sit in the assembly under the banner of Sunni Ittehad Council and the embattled party was denied reserved seats. As a result, about 25 reserved seats were doled out to other parties such as ANP, PPP, PML-N and the JUI. However, the provincial government has not yet allowed them to take oath.
