In response to recent snowfall that rendered upper Chitral’s Owir road impassable, the local community on self-help basis have rallied to remove the snow and open up their area.
Residents took it upon themselves to temporarily open the road which had been closed due to the recent snowfall and inclement weather. Remarkably, without any assistance from the government or the district administration, the locals shouldered the responsibility for the maintenance work as highlighted by community members to the media.
Following heavy rains and snowfall, the Owir road, like other areas in Chitral, became impassable, disrupting communication with other areas. In a commendable display of solidarity, local residents joined hands to restore the road temporarily.
This initiative allowed essential traffic such as shifting of patients in need of medical attention and delivery of daily necessities to navigate through despite the road closure.
The people of Owir heavily rely on supplies from Chitral city, making the recent snowfall and subsequent road closures particularly challenging for them.
Concerned about the situation, the locals appealed to the chief minister, PDMA  and other authorities to intervene and ensure regular maintenance of the road to prevent similar incidents in the future.Owir road opened by community. Upper Chitral roads
