GAHKUCH (GB): A police officer was shot dead during a raid to arrest suspects in the murder case of a teacher.
Local people said that a few days ago Niat Amin, a government schoolteacher and resident of Bhatrit village, was killed in a crossfire while returning home from school on a bike along with his sister.
Over the murder, the residents of Dahimal and other areas staged a sit-in, blocking the Gilgit road, demanding arrest of of the culprits.
The locals said in a tip-off SHO of Gupis police station SI Muhammad Alam led a team of police to raid a house in Bhatrit village in Gupis where the alleged killers were hiding.
However, when the police reached the hideout, the suspects opened fire from inside the house, killing the SHO on the spot.
The deceased was a resident of Diamer district.
