Floodwater enters Singoor powerhouse, supply suspended

CHITRAL: Floodwater has entered the powerhouse located at Singoor village, said the office of the deputy commissioner Chitral Lower. 

As a precautionary step, power supply from the facility has been suspended. Officials from the district administration and other departments are at the site and trying to protect the premises and equipment from damages. 

Rivers and streams across Chitral are flooding due to rain and melting of glaciers.  The main road between Chitral Lower and Upper is blocked at different points.

Widespread damages are feared to public and private properties in different parts of the valley. Locals said that besides houses and shops, the already dilapidated roads have been washed away cutting links to many villages. 

Upper Chitral is most affected as a large number of people have been rendered homeless in Pavur, Meragram No 2, Sonoghur and Khuz. 

Moreover, mini-hydel power stations in scores of villages have been damaged by flooding in streams and the residents are without electricity. Water pipelines form streams are also washed away.
