River flooding in Ayun, Chitral

Rivers, streams flooding, houses, roads damaged across Chitral

CHITRAL: The Chitral river, its tributaries and streams across Chitral are in high flood due to rains and melting of glaciers and have damaged public properties and blocked roads in many areas.

The overflowing water of the Yarkhun river has started entering houses and damaging croplands in Pavur village of Yarkhun that were also hit by the river water last year. Over a dozen of houses have been affected now and the locals have appealed for government help. Many residents have shifted to safer places in the village.

The river flooding has also inundated Ayun village in Lower Chitral. Social worker Inayatullah Aseer has called upon the government authorities to protect the village against the river flooding and pay compensation to the affected people for the losses.

Meanwhile, flooding in streams and rivers have blocked roads in different parts of Upper Chitral.

The Shandur road was blocked after a bridge at Shaidas was damaged by floods in Shaidas Gol. The iron bridge was brought to the area and laid over the stream by Chitral Scouts before the annual Shandur festival this year.

Moreover, Khuz and Dewangol villages on the right bank of river Yarkhun in front of Kargin are cut off due to the high flooding in the river.

Flooding in river Yarkhun is also cutting the road near a bridge in Yukum village.

In many other villages, power supply is suspended as streams feeding their powerhouses are flooding.
