Transporters’ strike paralyzes routine life in Oweer

CHITRAL: Transporters observed a complete strike in Oweer valley of Upper Chitral demanding reasonable increase in fares on local routes in the wake of rising fuel prices.

The strike, launched from last five days , continued till filing of this report, affecting the routine life.

It was the first time such an impressive strike of drivers in the remote area has been observed where no public vehicle was seen on the roads throughout the week.

The strike caused numerous problems to the local residents while travelling to chitral town and other areas. Besides, the students also faced trouble while going to schools.

The shopkeepers bring the goods from Chitral town ,the business is affected due to the strike.

Local resident Tanveer ulhaq told Chitral Today that they were in lots of trouble due to the strike of the transporters.

Fasting people were seen walking towards their destinations from Parpish on Mastuj Road.

“We demand the district administration to realize the suffering of the people and get the issue resolved by holding talks with the transporters,” he said.

The transporters told Chitral Today the main aim of the strike was to force the district administration to review the fares. The prices of petroleum products have gone up manifold but the fares have not been raised for log. The administration is doing injustice by not notifying the new fares which is unacceptable.

They warned of launching a protest campaign if the district administration did not meet their demand besides continuing the  strike.
