Has regime change operation backfired
Sarwar Kamal
There is no doubt that the regime change operation has triggered a political, constitutional and economic unrest and crisis in Pakistan. Perhaps as a nation we are passing through our most political volatile phase of history.
There is a cloud of uncertainty over us as a nation because our future is uncertain. The rupee-dollar parity is alarming. There is a very simple rule of economy and business: when our local currency depreciates our imports become very expensive and the masses have to pay this heavy price. Unfortunately, we are importing majority of our domestic commodities from abroad paying in dollars resulting huge devaluation of our local currency.
The billion dollar question is whether this PDM-led regime has the ability and capability to overcome this crisis? Unfortunately, the answer is a big no because they are not in a position to take concrete, bold and long-term decisions. This regime lacks public support and mandate because a minority has been imposed upon us over the majority which is against the true letter and spirit of any democratic society.
Let us suppose as a neutral for a while that the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan was organic and according to the true spirit of the constitution. Unfortunately, on the one hand they are terming this act of no-confidence motion against Imran Khan legal and according to the constitution but on the contrary they are reluctant and hesitant to hold elections both in KP and Punjab which is a contrast as far as there sincerity and loyalty with the constitution is concerned.
These people only believe in power politics. According to the constitution after the dissolution of an assembly holding election is mandatory within 90 days otherwise there will be a breach and violation of the constitution. It is clear crystal that there is an element of fear with in the ranks of the top leadership of PDM that there political future is uncertain because Imran Khan is enjoying nowadays a landsliding public support as far as the elections both in KP in Punjab is concerned.
The PDM is using delaying tactics to delay the process of election which is a very dangerous trend. It is a very sorrow state of affairs that now the matter is sub judice in the apex court of the country. The PDM has initiated a very well planned and well orchestrated campaign against the supreme court judges by there character assassination to dictate there own terms.
Any delay in holding the elections beyond 90 days would be clear violation of the constitution and would set a very dangerous precedent for future. I pray and hope at last sanity should prevail and there will be some positive outcome for the sake of our democracy otherwise our democracy will be in jeopardy.
