Killing of professor mourned in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The Islamia College University of Peshawar mourned the death of Professor Muhammad Bashir of the Department of English who was gunned down by a watchman at Islamia College on Sunday morning.

According to SHO Police Station Campus Dawood Khan, he was informed that Professor Bashir was shot dead at University Islamia College.

Police immediately reached the spot and shifted the dead body to the hospital for postmortems.

The SHO said during the initial investigation it was found that a few days ago there was a verbal altercation between the brother of the deceased Professor Bashir and the watchman Sher Muhammad while the professor allegedly and the watchman exchanged fire during which the professor was killed.

After the incident, the watchman fled the scene along with the gun whose possible hideouts are being raided.

The police claimed they have seized several empty shells of Kalashnikov and four empty shells of 30-bore pistol from the crime scene, while 30-bore pistol with two live cartridges have also been seized from the deceased professor.

Civil society, faculty and students union expressed grief and announced mourning.

The vice president of Islamia College Teaching Association told Chitral Today, they strongly condemned the killing of Professor Bashir and demanded that the killers be arrested soon and punished severely.
