Flood emergency declared in Chitral

PESHAWAR: An emergency has been declared in the districts of Lower and Upper Chitral to carry out relief operation by the government.

The emergency has been declared in the flood devastated areas with effect from July 13 to August 30 in Lower Chitral and from June 18 to Aug 30 in Upper Chitral.

According to two separate notifications issued by the Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Department, the emergency has been declared in the request of the district administration and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority. 

The floods in streams abd rivers have wrecked havoc across Chitral, killing at least four people and damaging roads and bridges and washing away houses and standing crops and orchards.

The river after being blocked by floods in Meragram Gol is cutting off land abd houses in Mem locality of Awi and the inhabitants have shifted to safer places.
