AKES committed to long-term support for community schools: Brig Khush
CHITRAL: The head of the Aga Khan Education Service (AKES) Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan retired Brig Khush Muhammad Khan has said the organization has the commitment to ensure long-term financial and professional support to the community-based schools in Broghil valley.
In reference to a report published in ChitralToday on May 7, he said currently three of the eight schools are not open while one has been taken over by the government.
He said after the imposition of a ban on the Central Asia Institute Gilgit (CAIG), the AKES decided to provide immediate support to the schools to ensure continuity of education of the children. He said since then, the AKES has been paying salaries to the teachers, imparting them training on a regular basis and recently increased their salaries by 7 percent with effect from May 1, 2022.
He said a special unit has also been set up to ensure continuity of the organizational support to the schools which would be further strengthened.
He also said that the AKES would encourage any of the community schools to follow the recruitment process of the AKES if they want to get themselves appointed as the permanent teachers under the organization.
In a statement sent to ChitralToday, Brig Khush said: “As a matter of fact, the CAIG run schools in Yarkhonlasht/Broghil and GB faced the challenge of uncertain future after closure of funding from CAIG in 2019.
