62 teams participate in indoor sports event
CHITRAL: A three-day deputy commissioner inter-club tournament of indoor games concluded here on Thursday, ChitralToday correspondent reports.
As many as 10 teams of volleyball, 16 teams of badminton, 16 of table tennis double and 20 teams of table tennis single participated in the tournament.
Deputy Commissioner Anwarul Haq was chief guest at the concluding ceremony who distributed awards among the players.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said under the direction of the government, the district administration was trying to promote sports and provided facilities to the players.
He said five percent budgetary allocation had also been ensured for sports activities in the district.
District Sports Officer Amir Zaman said a large number of players took part in the tournament organized after a long time.
Due to absence of a proper place, the tournament was held in an old building of the food department.
A seven-year-old girl badminton player from Swat also took part in the tournament and was given an award. She stressed the need for promotion of sports in girls.
The team of Drosh won the volleyball cup snd was also given Rs10,000 award while Zargarandeh won the badminton trophy along with a Rs7,000 cash prize.
The table tennis double cup was also grabbed by Drosh and single was won by Naveed Ahmed. –GF Farooqui
