Work on Bejaan hotel stayed again on plea of locals

CHITRAL: A local court has stayed construction work on Bejaan hotel on an application filed by residents of Gankorini in Singoor who complained that their privacy right was being violated by the builder.

The court in its order dated Jan 5, 2022, directed the builder to stop work on Bejaan hotel for 14 days and put in place proper arrangements to protect the privacy of families living in the adjacent area of Gankorini.
The residents through Sajidullah Advocate contended that labourers and other people from outside Chitral had been engaged for the construction of the five-star hotel. They said as labourers worked on the building, women members of their families had been unable to come out of their houses. The issue arose after work on the second floor started whose windows open towards the nearby residential area.
The residents said the builder had not taken any steps to protect their privacy right, and urged the court to issue directions for staying work at the site till proper arrangements are put in place. The court accepted the plea and issued the stay order.
Since the start of the construction work on Bejaan hotel in October 2020, the project has been married by controversies and court cases.
Initially, the local people claimed ownership on the land and obtained stay orders besides holding protests and disrupting the construction. Later, people living nearby started complaining that after completion their privacy would be affected as windows of the hotel would be opening towards their houses.
The five-star hotel is being constructed by US business tycoon of Chitrali origin, Mr Anwar Aman.– GH Farooqui
