Start of work on Karimabad road not in sight

CHITRAL: People of Karimabad are still waiting for the construction of a road to their area even though the government announced funds for it long ago.

Local people time and again on self-help basis repair the narrow track to minimize travel time and accidents as it has never been constructed by any government in the past.

Isa Khan, who heads an NGO, told ChitralToday that the track serves over 1,3000 population of Karimabad and Susum. He said the government performed groundbreaking on the road thrice but couldn’t start work.

Last month, he said, minority MPA Wazirzada told locals that the chief minister had sanctioned Rs400 million additional funds but there is no progress on the project.
Former district naib nazim Sultan Shah said 38 people have lost their lives in accidents on the road and many others have been injured.

He said Rs100 million had been released by the government but the contractor after starting the work disappeared.

When contacted, executive engineer of the Communication and Works Department Tariq Murtaza said the chief minister had inaugurated the project along with three other projects but funds were yet to be released for the start of work.–GH Farooqui
