Local govt elections in KP from Dec 19: ECP

ISLAMABAD: The first phase of the local government (LG) elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will be held on December 19, 2021, and the second on January 16, 2022, announced the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

In a detailed order by a three-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, the ECP directed the KP government to make arrangements for holding the elections in a free and transparent manner.

Under a proposal, the provincial government wanted to hold the elections for the village and neighbourhood councils in two phases – first in December this year and the second in March next year – and to take a decision about holding the polls for the tehsil councils later.

Now the polls for the village, tehsil and neighbourhood councils in 17 districts would be held in the first phase and in the remaining 18 districts in the second phase, according to the ECP directions.
