PESHAWAR: The government has removed the name of social activist Sher Jahan Sahil from the fourth schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
A notification issued by the home and tribal areas department, available with ChitralToday, stated: “The competent authority on the recommendation of the Counter-Terrorism Department is pleased to approve the removal of Sher Jahan Sahil from the list of Schedule IV of ATA 1997 with immediate effect.”
The social media activist from Lotkoh was placed on Schedule IV of Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997 – terror watch list – for his alleged involvement “in promoting sectarianism and hatred between different religious groups and sects in Chitral.” in May 2000.
He challenged the move in Peshawar High Court which directed the departments concerned to submit evidence of his involvement in such activities.
The government failed to produce any such proof and last month informed the high court that removal of his name from the terror watch list had been recommended.
