HUNZA: Prime Minister Imran Khan laid the foundation of Hunza’s first Information Technology (IT) Park by unveiling the plaque at a ceremony held in Chinarbagh, Gilgit.
Established jointly by Special Communications Organization (SCO) and the Aga Khan Foundation Pakistan (AKFP), the IT park will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure with uninterrupted power supply, high speed internet facility and a co-working space for small and growing businesses, start-ups, freelancers, and chamber of commerce.
The prime minister while highlighting the opportunities in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) said: “The region has tremendous potential in tapping the talent of qualified youth by providing better Information and communication technologies (ICT). Pakistan is already ranked amongst the top 5 countries in the world for digital work, freelancing and online labor”.
Major General Shahid Siddique, DG SCO, informed the participants about multiple projects of SCO in the region which include the China optical fiber link, fiber-to-home service, satellite communications for remote areas, cloud-based data centre, incubation centre and IT parks.
