Snow sports festival in Madaklasht from 29th
CHITRAL: A three-day Hindukush Snow Sports Festival will start on January 29 in the remote Madaklasht valley of Lower Chitral.
The festival is being organized as a calendar event by Hindukush Snow Sports Club with the assistance of KP tourism department, Winter Sports Federation of Pakistan, SRSP, GLOF-II project and the Canadian High Commission.
The district administration, Chitral Scouts and police are extending support and assistance in the organizing the festival.
Shahzada Hashamul Mulk, President HSSC, said all arrangements were complete. A large number of athletes, including international players, will participate in the festival and also train local athletes in skiing and snowboarding games, he added.
The festival will conclude on January 31.
We appreciate the efforts of the torch bearers, supporters and local administration assistance to promote events of the like. Tourism promotion is certainly in the best interest of Chitral and the country. Thanks to the personal interest; successful endeavors of the promoters such as HSSC through Shahzada Hisham and their knowledge and contact of the adventure tourists in the country and abroad that last year and this year too there is an influx of tourists.
Reaching up to the venue in Madaklasht or for that matter in other such places in Chitral requires the participants to sustain travel hardships to the extent of saying ‘No’ to repeatedly undertake adventures in this part of the country mainly because of the poor condition of road network. Easy access and availability of boarding and lodging facilities of reasonable quality for guests will attract them to repeat the adventurous sports.
There is need to manage tourism properly for sustainability, so that the ecosystem and local culture is protected from the adverse effects.
