CHITRAL: The district administrations of Lower and Upper Chitral in collaboration with the forest department launched monsoon plantation drives on Aug 9.
In Lower Chitral, 8,000 plants would be planted along the river near the airport where the drive was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Shaukat Fayaz said 30,000 plants would also be planted in four other sites in the district.
The department has engaged youth for the success of the drive. A large number of people took part in the plantation drive.
The DFO said the success rate of the saplings planted under the tsunami programme in Chitral was 40 percent.
The official said 1.9 million saplings would be planted in Chitral within a year for which hundreds of people have been engaged as daily wage labourers.–GH Fraooqui
