Illegal mining continues across Chitral, says report

PESHAWAR: Illegal mining is going on unabated in various areas of Chitral, an official report has revealed.
It said the illegal mining of sand, crush, stones, nephrite, granite, phosphate, gypsum, chromite and marble was continuing in 16 districts of the province.

 

According to the report, the illegal activity is continuing in Shotar, Balach, Orghoch, Juti Lusht and Sheli area of Broz. The illegal mining in Shishi Pul, Drosh, Shahnigar, Dondigal, Drosh, Sipagh Lasht, Gahiret, Ayun, Karak Booni and Owi Lasht Booni area of Upper Chitral has been reported to high-ups but no action taken.

It is also learnt that mining licences have been issued to outsiders but local licence holders were not being allowed to continue their work.

According to the report, mining of stone and crush illegally is continuing in Takhta Baig Khwar and Warmando Mela Shawy Mountain in tehsil Jamrud of Khyber district.

Similarly, the activity is also on the rise in Nowshera and Charsadda districts including mountain near village Misri Banda, Shabara, Parang River Swat, Jendai, Tangi and Karimu Khawar Mandani. Minerals like sand, stone and crush is being stolen from both the districts.
