Chitral reports first death from coronavirus

CHITRAL: The first death from coronavirus has been reported from Chitral. A native of Khorkashan Deh Chitral died of coronavirus at a Peshawar hospital, according to his relatives.

Close relatives of the deceased, aged 68 year, confirmed that he had been shifted to Peshawar after his condition deteriorated at the DHQ hospital Chitral where he was diagnosed with COVID-19.

He remained on ventilator at the Peshawar hospital for four days and passed away on Saturday night.

They said the deceased was also a diabetic patient and lived in Lahore with his family.

Before coming to Chitral a month back he had twice tested negative for the coronavirus in Lahore.

But a few weeks after reaching Chitral he fell ill and was admitted to the DHQ hospital where he tested positive for the virus.

His condition did not improve in the hospital and as a result he was later taken to Peshawar and admitted to a government hospital there.

The deceased’s relatives appealed to local people to follow corona precautions and offer fateha for the deceased without visiting his house.

Chitral has so far reported 56 confirmed coronavirus patients with the first case emerging on April 19 but almost all of them have recovered and sent home. This is the first death form coronavirus in Chitral.–Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
