Five Chitrali labourers injured in traffic accident in Chilas
GILGIT: Five Chitrali labourers, belonging to Yarkhun valley, were injured in a traffic accident in Chilas, Gilgit-Baltistan, on Wednesday.
Hospital sources said Mr Didar, Nadir, Taj, Noor, residents of Gazen and Unauch, were working in Gilgit city.
They planned to go home via the Shandur Pass. When their jeep driven by Sher Hussain, a resident of Gazen, reached Gahkuch they were not allowed to continue their journey towards Chitral.
As a result, they decided to take the Karakoram Highway to Chitral.
However, at about 11am when the jeep reached Chilas it overturned while negotiating a turn. Resultantly, the five Chitrali labourers were injured.
Dr Ehsan from a hospital in Chilas told ChitralToday correspondent on phone that the injured were out of danger. He said Nadir had sustained minor injuries to his head and was kept under observation.
Quite a large number of people from Upper Chitral move to Gilgit-Baltistan to work as labourers, especially in the winter, and return to Chitral after the reopening of the Shandur Pass in the spring.
With the outbreak of the novel coronavirus this year, most of the labourers remained stuck in different parts of GB as they were not allowed to enter Upper Chitral from Shandur. –Shamsul Haq Qamar
