BOONI: A 20-bed hospital for coronavirus patients, COVID-19 Emergency Response Centre, was on Tuesday inaugurated in Booni.
The coronavirus hospital has been set up in a girls hostel of Aga Khan education Service (AKES) for a period of one year by Aga Khan Health Service, Dr Sardar Nawaz of Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Booni told ChitralToday.
Though educational institutions are closed in the wake of the pandemic, it is not known where the female students would be accommodated after reopening of the schools and colleges.
A function held to inaugurate the COVID-19 Emergency Response Centre was informed that COVID-19 testing facility will also be available in the hospital in July.
Besides, the number of beds in teh Booni hospital will be increased to 30 soon. Another similar facility would be set up in Mastuj soon, the function was told.
Chief minister’ special assistant Wazirzada opened the hospital and appreciated the AKDN for helping the government in coping with the pandemic.
It may be noted that there is no coronavirus testing facility in whole Chitral and initially patients were driven to Peshawar for test.later, however, instead of physically shifting the patients only their samples were taken to Peshawar located at a distance of 400 km.
Earlier, the AKDN had set up an isolation ward at the Govt Degree College for Girls near Booni and handed it over to the local and ministration.
The district of Upper Chitral reported nine confirmed COVID-19 patients since April 21 when the first case emerged. So far seven of the patients have recovered and sent home.–Javed Khan
