Another Chitrali nurse infected with coronavirus in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Another Chitrali nurse has reportedly contracted the novel coronavirus in Peshawar and being treated for the disease at a hospital.

According to reports on social media, the nurse was working at a government hospital and contracted the virus. However, she did not want to be identified.

A large number of Chitrali nurses are working in the provincial capital where hospitals lack personal protection equipment for the medical and paramedical staff.

Earlier, another Chitrali nurse, Irum Shehzadi, hailing from Sarghuz village of Upper Chitral, was diagnosed with the virus in Peshawar. She was an employee of North West Hospitl but the hospital did not treat her and rather asked her to go on unpaid leave and self isolate herself at home.

However, she managed to get herself admitted in another hospital from where she was discharged after recovering from the disease a few days ago.

Medical and paramedical staff in hospitals across the country lack  personal protection equipment against the virus and a large number of doctors and nurse have been affected by the virus.

So far, three doctors, including a young doctor belonging to Gilgit-Baltistan and a senior physician in Sindh, have died from the virus while many others have been admitted to hospitals.

As the country was not prepared to the world pandemic, and no country was in the world, slowly the government is arranging safety kits and other equipment to cope with the rising cases.

Besides, the country is under lockdown and schools have been closed till May 31 while other precautions are also in place.
