Three other suspects held in couple’s murder case: DPO
CHITRAL: Police here have arrested three accomplices of the main suspect, already in custody, in the murder case of a young man from Garam Chashma and his eight-month pregnant wife last month.
District Police Officer (DPO) Wasim Riaz Khan told a press conference on Saturday that the alleged killers had been hired by parents of the woman belonging to Dir-Kohistan for marrying the man from Izz village of Garam Chashma against their will.
Waqar Ahmed alias Shahinshah contracted love marriage with the Kohistan woman one year ago and brought her to her village.
He said the main suspect in the murder case belonging to Sheringal Dir identified as Attaur Rehman, son of Ghulam Rehmat, was hired by the parents of the woman for Rs1.5 million to eliminate the couple. The suspect was initially paid Rs300,000, said the DPO, adding some of the amount along with a car used by the alleged killers had been recovered by the police.
He said under a plan, Attaur Rehman came to the Izz village and started living near the house of the couple and developed friendship with them. The couple also blindly trusted the outsiders and developed family terms with them.
On October 28, the pregnant woman had to see a doctor in Chitral town and the accused accompany the family to the hospital. On return, the young man and his wife were shot dead one after another by the hired assassins. The next day, their bodies were recovered from the side of Garam Chashma road near Shali from a distance of each other.
The police claimed to have arrested the main suspect from Dir-Kohistan on Nov 4 and brought him to Chitral. The accomplices of the main suspect have been identified as Khurshid Ali, Hamza and Muhammad Hujjaj.
The DPO said the suspects have confessed to their involvement in murdering the couple.
He appreciated the investigating team, comprising SDPO ZafarAhmed and Inspector Sajjad Hussain and other officials, for tracing the suspects and rounding them up. He said the team was working on different angles to bring all the culprits to justice.–Bashir Hussain Azad
