CHITRAL: Rain continuing for about three days in different parts of Chitral caused flooding in streams and nullahs on Wednesday. Besides, avalanches and landsliding blocked roads to a number of sub-valleys.
There was also interruption to traffic on the main road connecting Chitral with other parts of the country through the Lowari tunnel due to flooding in streams.
The Chitral police in a statement said District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Furqan Bilal had directed all station house officers (SHOs) to remain on alert and provide assistance to the travellers by clearing raods.
Police personnel were seen in different parts of lower Chitral helping stranded people along flooding streams and roads.
The rain also turned the weather cold with people mostly remaining indoor and rushing to local bazaars for buying fuel and firewood.
A resident of Booni told ChitralToday on phone that since the start of the rainy spell, the supply of electricity to the town had further worsened.
