CHITRAL: MNA Molana Abdul Akbar Chitrali had to stage a protest sit-in outside the Lowari tunnel after Dir Scouts personnel not only disallowed him to cross the passageway but also misbehaved with him.
After about two and a half hours, the only lawmaker representing Chitral in the National Assembly ended his protest and proceeded to Islamabad.
Talking to local media on phone, Moulana Chitrali said he was on way to Islamabad to attend a meeting when he was stopped at the tunnel at about 8am.
He said even though he introduced himself as the MNA, the security personnel did not budge and misbehaved with him and also beat up his driver.
When the security forces were treating a lawmaker in such a way he wondered how the ordinary people of Chitral had been suffering humiliation at their hands.
The MNA said he ended the protest only after higher authorities apologized to him and assured him that action would be taken against those who misbehaved with him.
The lawmaker was also assured that Chitral Scouts and Chitral police would be deployed in the tunnel so that no such incidents occurred with the passengers in future.
Molana Chitrali said he would also submit a privilege motion in the National Assembly as it was not only an insult with him but also with the people of Chitral.
He said the tunnel was completed during the tenure of the PML-N government but still it was being closed for 12 hours a day which was violation of the basic rights of the people.
He also said all passengers took part in the protest which showed that the Chitralis were fed up with the prolonged closure of the tunnel and the behavior of the staff with them.
