Shopkeepers fined for fleecing consumers

CHITRAL: At least 15 store owners and different vendors were fined for not displaying the official rate list, overcharging, poor hygiene in business places and selling substandard food items.

The action was taken during a snap visit to the bazaar by Assistant Commissioner Revenue Tariq Hussain. Those who were fined also included poultry dealers, butchers and milkmen.

The AC warned the shopkeepers and vendors that they would not be allowed to fleece the consumers or sell unhygienic and substandard food items.

He expressed anger at the poultry dealers for unhygienic conditions in their shops and said anyone not maintaining cleanliness would be punished. Mr Hussain also ordered laboratory testing of milk products being sold under the name of a dairy farm. –Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
