Upper Chitral gets no respite from power outages
BOONI: Despite availability of surplus electricity, upper Chitral’s main town Booni is experiencing 16-hour-long outages and did not get any respite even in the fasting month of Ramazan.
This is intolerable and local officials of the power utility company are deliberately forcing the residents to take to streets and create law and order situation, said Tehreek Huqooq-e-Awam leader Muhammad Pervez Lal in a statement.
He said soon after Eidul Fitre the Tehreek would mobilize the people of upper Chitral against the step-motherly attitude of the officials concerned.
He said that sufficient Golen Gol power station electricity was being transferred to upper Chitral from the Juti Lasht grid station but PEDO officials posted in Reshun were not passing it on to the consumers on the pretext that the transformer there was out of order.
He said the people of upper Chitral remained without power for three years after the Reshun powerhouse was damaged in the 2015 floods. But after the inauguration of the first phase of Golen Gol powerhouse (35MW) a few months ago, the PEDO officials have deliberately kept the area deprived of electricity.
This irresponsible attitude of the PEDO officials is causing immense inconvenience to the consumers of upper Chitral. After exhausting all the available forums to get electricity, the area people are left with no other option but to launch a public protest campaign after Eid to get their right, he added.
Very unfortunate. This credit also goes to the “Khalai Makhlooq” who’ve ravaged our beloved country since 1947.
