District admin swings into action to expedite work on Orghoch bridge

CHITRAL: On the complaints of the residents of Orghoch against the slow pace of work on the only jeepable bridge linking the area with other parts of the district, Deputy Commissioner Irshad Sodhar has directed the officials concerned of the district administration to personally supervise the work and resolve the longstanding issue.

The DC office on Sunday said the officials concerned were also directed to ensure that the speed of work was expedited on the project to complete it on a priority without compromising on the quality of the work.
It may be noted that for years the construction of the jeepable bridge over Chitral river to link the Orgoch village has remained incomplete. The residents of the village have no other option but to cross a dangerously hanging pedestrian bridge to communicate with other parts of Chitral risking their lives.
Local people complained to ChitralToday correspondent two weeks ago that the government had allocated Rs170 million for the construction of the jeepable bridge but the contractor left the work incomplete and disappeared two years back. Since then, no official of the government could pay any heed to the public complaints to complete the project.
