‘Indigenous knowledge should be part of risk management strategy’
CHITRAL: Speakers at a seminar here highlighted the vulnerability of Chitral to natural calamities and the need for measures to reduce impacts of such calamities. The seminar was organized in connection with the National Disaster Awareness Day by the district administration, Aga Khan Agency for Habitat and the University of Chitral.
The event was chaired by University of Chitral’s Project Director Prof Dr Badshah Munir Bukhari while Deputy Commissioner Irshad Sodhar was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Bukhari said indigenous knowledge should be included in any risk management strategy for Chitral. He said all organizations working on disaster risk management in the valley should collaborate with each other to achieve the desired results, adding the University of Chitral would be available to provide its platform for any such collaboration.
The DC said unfortunately we are faced with the impacts of such disasters that could be managed easily. He said the youth of Chitral should also have to play their role in the preparation of a disaster risk management strategy. He said he wants practical work rather these soft activates, adding he will not tolerate flaws on cleanliness. He announced to reorganize the Deputy Commissioner Volunteer Task Force.
A number of stalls were also set up at the venue at the UoC by the organizers.
