Red Crescent to assess damages to properties in Sonoghur
CHITRAL: Pakistan Red Crescent Society has decided to assess damages caused to Sonoghur by the recent floods.
He issued the directive after a briefing was given to him during his visit to the BLSO office in Booni, says a press release. Head of office German Red Cross David Kaley and his staff were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, BLSO manager Sher Afzal expressed the hope that the visit of the dignitaries would help in bringing a change in the life of the residents of the remote area. He said it would also be helpful in preparing the mountain dwellers to cope with natural disasters in a scientific way.
Mr Afzal also briefed the guests about the suffering and losses of the people of Sonoghur which they endured since the devastating GLOF of 2007. The affected residents have not yet been compensated and rehabilitated.
Earlier, director planning and development Faridullah Khan and Javed Bangash also visited the BLSO office and stated that chairman Planning division Pakistan would also visit the area soon. Chairman BLSO Syed Sardar Hussain and former tehsil nazim Shamsur Rehman also spoke on the occasion.]]>
In June 2007, due to the heavy flood Sonoghur was destroyed. Without any help the people have been working hard to rebuild their damaged houses and rehabilitate their agricultural fields and plantations. We hope that Chairman Pakistan Red Crescent Society Pakistan help and the people will come in their normal condition and live in a good and proper way. Thanks Mr Afzal sahib for your affords for the people of Sonoghur. You are right that since long time of period the affected residents have not yet been compensated.
