AWI: Taxi driver Abdul Ghani popularly known as Ghani Ustad, died after a protracted illness here.
Before the first visit of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan to Chitral in early 1976, the people of Yarkhun constructed a jeep track from Mastuj to Bang. Chinar in Mastuj was the village where the His Highness gave Didar to his followers during his first ever visit to Chitral in March 1976.
After the jeep track was constructed by the people of Yarkhun in late 1975, Mr Ghani of Awi was the first taxi driver who drove a jeep to the remote area. He also drove a large number of people from Yarkhun valley to the Chinar village and back on the occasion of the Aga Khan’s visit.
These people mostly included elderly persons and women who were unable to travel to Chinar village on foot for the didar and back.
Mr Ghani continued driving his taxi for a long time and later also opened a workshop. He is survived by his wife, five sons and three daughters.
