Wakhan corridor under Taliban attack

This battle has profound regional implications related to China, Russia, Pakistan and where the ‘Great Game’ took place. Central Asia Institute established 25 of the first schools in Wakhan (75% of region). In the last week, militants from Warduj overtook Zebak, at Wakhan’s west end, and pushed east to five miles from Ishkashim, the district capital. About 200 poorly armed and under-equipped Afghan Army, BSF, and local militia hold a thin line against 3X the number of Taliban. Little support from Kabul government or US so far. Khushpak village (photo) was held for one day and regained on Friday. The people here on the ‘Roof Of The World’ are trapped. Food shortages and lack of health care prevail.
