Passengers caught unaware of tunnel closure

the tunnel on Friday and Tuesday (twice a week).  According to the NHA announced schedule when passengers  reached  from Peshawar at Dir upper early on Tuesday they were very much disappointed to know that the tunnel approach roads were not cleared of snow and that the tunnel would be opened on Wednesday. A  Chitrali  passenger  at Dir side told this scribe that harsh words were exchanged between passengers and the Dir police when they were stopped. A spokesman of NHA at PD office Dir said that due to heavy snowfall and bad weather snow could not be removed from the road timely hence bulldozers of 107 Engineering Corps were busy to remove snow from Lowari tunnel road. Passengers coming from Peshawar to Chitral were besieged at Dir upper who said that more thsn 400 vehicles had teached Dir but there was no facility especially for women folk and children. They demanded from the authorities that in case of blocking of Lowari tunnel NHA should inform passengers at Peshawar and Chitral bus stand (ada)  to not  travel towards the tunnel.]]>

  1. According to the Upper Dir District Administration, Lawari tunnel is open and passengers are passing through the tunnel. District Administration Upper Dir and Chitral are in constant contact to facilitate the stranded passengers.
