Is Chitral admin left with no other work?
They said the whole valley of Chitral was devastated by the 2015 floods and the earthquake and its residents still could not recover from the large-scale destruction caused by the natural calamities. But instead of working for the rehabilitation of the damaged infrastructures and providing any relief to the affected people, the local administration was busy in arranging different festivals and musical programmes as if there was nothing to be worried about.
They said after waiting for months for any relief and compensation, the earthquake-affected people of Drosh were left with no option but to leave their abodes and migrate to Afghanistan. After rotting at Mirkhani for several days, the district administration persuaded them to end their protest, promising that the chief minister was about to visit Chitral during which their issues would be raised with him.
Besides, the people of Reshun have been protesting and appealing for the reconstruction of the Reshun powerhouse which was destroyed in the July 2015 floods and could not be repaired yet. This was the only powerhouse supplying electricity to the people of whole upper and parts of lower Chitral.
The valley of Mulkhow was also devastated in the 2015 flooding rendering hundreds of people homeless and destroying their properties. Besides, the already narrow roads and bridges over rivers and streams linking the area with other parts of the country were washed away. However, as neither most of the affected people have been compensated nor work on the reconstruction of the roads and bridges started, the area residents have warned of a protest drive from May 15.
They say when they had started their protest a few months back, the local administration made a false promise with them saying the chief minister KP was coming to Chitral to resolve their issues. But later, nothing happened and the administration remained busy in arranging the Qaqlasht festival in upper Chitral.
The people of Brep and the Broghil valley also have not been compensated for their damaged houses in the Oct 26, 2015, earthquake even after filing undertakings and getting their houses surveyed and verified the damages.
Under these circumstances, the provincial government and the district administration have remained a silent spectator to the agonies of the people of Chitral. The affected people said the district administration had no time and resources to resolve their issues but was busy in arranging festival after festival and musical programmes. They said they had no objections to holding of such events provided the authorities concerned also took care of the issues the people have been facing since the two calamities hit Chitral last year.]]>
Unfortunately we are not in a position to left our bad habit of “looking the dark side “. WE left no stone upturned when there is a change to criticize someone. When district administration does good things which needs public appropriation, we pass through hibernation period, and when we get a little chance to criticize them, we wake up from “Khawb Ghalfat”.
Its my suggestion to criticize everyone for the sake of improvement, not just criticize for the sake of criticism.
Also my suggestion to zeeshan not to involve parmilitary in common civil matters. They are doing good in protecting and safeguarding our district.
Absolutely agree with Ali Khan. The young Facebook wala ACs are busy with selfies on the stage and proudly display it. I wonder when will the government departments whether local, provincial or Federal will develop service oriented attitude. All these new officers are from humble background but their attitude changed so quickly when they get behind the government resources.
Elders should be given seats on the stage as per our traditions.
Very upset to see that elders/safed resh people are sitting on back and I dont see a single notable on the front seats. The same mistake was committed in Qaqlasht as well. We remember that previously local notables were given proper seats and were respected by the adminstration. Respecting elders is an important feature of Chitrali culture but here 70 percent seats are occupied by so called officers and their hawaris. the adminstration needs to understand that who should sit where before claiming to be champions of khowar culture. Elders/Safed resh on back seats such a shame for Chitral and also shows that there is no respect for elders in eyes of the adminstration
So a captain requesting his Commanding Officer for keeping check on things. What a shame.
Do you people have any idea what people are suffering from in Yarkhun, Mastuj, Torkhow, Mulkhow, Garam Chashma and even in Drosh? My brother took to reach home 24 hours day before to reach home for an otherwise journey of 4 hours because of the flooding in the nullahs on way to our home. You have liberty to celebrate when all the people of the district are satisfied and happy and definitely happiness deserves celebration. This is utter disregard to the suffering of the thousand by a handful of cronies of the administration in Chitral. Don’t you think the father and his dear daughter would not have lost their precious lives the other day, had a proper bridge been constructed over the river they fell into?? And yes, the fund being thrown away through this festival is more than sufficient for half a dozen of such pedestrian bridges. This year has become particularly warm and threat of flooding is higher than ever, the senseless attitude of the District admin can only be deplored, condemned but not appreciated at all. I appeal to the Commandant Chitral Scouts to keep a check on these type of activities in Chitral.
We should not divide the chitral into upper and lower chitral we all belong to chitral and should proud of it. As far as celebrating festival is concerned, Jashne chitral is the centuries old festival which used to celebrate in chitral as an annual event in Mehtars era. The religious parties will oppose every festival until they expect something out of it, let the chitralis enjoy the music and other traditional and folk games.
There is no harm in celebrating festival, we should not be castigating the govts and admin for every step they take. Last time i remember, a storm was created in a tea cup when the children were taken to qaqlasht for cleanliness drive. Majority of the Chitralis like entertainment and they have the right to enjoy. I see people enjoying the music and polo matches at polo matches. Religious parties will always politicize things but we should not embolden them with our erring anlaysis.
Perhaps this is Lower Chitral equivalent of Qaqlasht. Otherwise, in the backdrop of last month festival there is no justification of wasting precious public funds on something like this when majority of Chitrali people are suffering the consequences of last year’s natural calamities. This year, even at this point of time flooding have yet again started and road leading to villages are being closed down.
Given the fact that we have already celebrated a mega festival last month, and Chilim Jusst and more importantly Shanduar is coming up, this can only be seen a gimmick on the part of organizers to divert interest of the people from the pressing issues of Chitral. The authorities in Chitral should try to give maximum relief to the people but it should never be through music and dancing.
