Shelter kits distributed among flood affectees

WP_20150919_003The material distribution ceremony was held at the playground of Government Degree College Booni and was attended by Tehsil member Sardar Hakim Khan, chairman village council Charun Sher Alam and chairman village council Reshun Shahzada Munir besides members of the local bodies, chairman Biyar Local Support Organization (BLSO) and District Executive Manager HANDS and a large number of villagers. Speaking on the occasion, Zulfiqar Cheema, the district coordinator HANDS, said his organization was working in 41 districts of Pakistan. He said Mr Sher Afzal, the manager BLSO, contacted HANDS regarding the flood destruction in Chitral to assist the affectees. Upon this, he added, HANDS high level representatives decided to assist the flood-hit people in Chitral with the help of DFID and IMU. Mr Mohammad Raheem Marri, the general manager social mobilization and disaster management programme HANDS, personally visited the area along with BLSO and AKRSP management. hands“After that we started an assessment of the flood-affected people on the basis of which we would be providing materials to the owners of 250 fully damaged and 250 practically damaged houses in the area. Now we are distributing shelter material to the 250 partially damaged households.” After Eidul Azha, he added, HANDS would support the 250 fully damaged households with shelter, blankets and solar lights. On the occasion, Mr Sardar Hakim, Member Tehsil Council, thanked HANDS for its assistance and hoped that it would also provide support to flood-affected people of UC Laspur and Yarkhun and will play a vital role in rehabilitating not only the damaged households but also the community based infrastructure in the area. Village Council Chairman Mr Sher Alam and Mr Shahzada Munir also expressed their views and thanked HANDS.]]>
