JUI leader to contest election for district nazim
CHITRAL, July 1: Despite repeated claims, the alliance between Jamaat-e-Islami and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is in the doldrums as former MPA and JUI leader Maulana Abdur Rehman on Wednesday announced to contest election for the slot of district nazim.
He said under the agreement the two parties agreed upon before forming the alliance, the post of district nazim was the right of the JUI but the JI was violating the spirit of the agreement by insisting to make its leader Maghfirat Shah as the nazim. Because of the insistence, he added, a sense of disappointment was rising among the people, especially the JUI workers of Chitral. Under these circumstances, Maulana Rehman said it had become necessary that he should contest the election for the post of district nazim for the sake of the religious parties’ alliance.
He asked the leaders of JI to follow the terms of the agreement and support him in the election. Maulana Rehman said it was beyond his comprehension why the JI Chitral was deviating from the terms of the agreement with the JUI.
