Universities must make policies against plagiarism
By Rakhshinda Shakir Copying and pasting is another way of getting credit of someone else’s effort in writing and is called Plagiarism. Plagiarism probably would have some pros too but keeping in view of all the cons I am not agreeing with allowing students from doing it. Plagiarism is a worst form of stealing and it keeps a student away from being creative and using his own mind, that is why I strongly agree with the policies of universities against plagiarism. Plagiarism is stealing, and stealing is always bad. In our entire life of learning we have learnt that stealing is bad and we must abstain from doing it. When it is time for us to enhance our limited learning in a platform called university how can we expect universities to allow us stealing ideas thoughts and emotions? “If you plagiarize others’ techniques, you steal their emotions and tell your spectators a lie with your work. Works as such equal zero”. (Wu Guan Zhong). If plagiarism was allowed in universities it would absolutely contradict with the learning we had in schools and high schools thus we would never be a person of our own self, rather a person of stealing ideas and look no different than the person we are copying. Plagiarism halts students from being creative by not bothering to think and write about a topic discussing her own ideas in her own words, rather opening so many tabs and searching for an appropriate link where information related to the topic can be copied. The easiest way to approach is Google, when we are asked to submit an essay or research paper or whatever sort of writing about any topic by our university professors. We keep searching about the topic and when an idea seems appealing to our mind we copy and paste it and get credit for it without citing it. So many ideas are out there and if we keep repeating those already existing words and way of thinking than nothing would seem interesting about our writing, rather it would seem more like a photo copied version of an already existing written paper. Making policies about plagiarism in universities are proper ways to really create creative minds and make students use their own thoughts and put forth their ideas and opinions. Banning plagiarism is another way where a student’s creativity can be addressed. If you tell a student do not plagiarize or else getting promoted to the next grade probably would be impossible than that is the point where a real talent of student can come forth. Students are mostly afraid of failing a class and if plagiarism is hurdle in their way no matter how poor the ideas come from within them, students would write any way. Ideas are ideas. What so ever is your idea that is yours, what so ever comes from within yourself it is your voice. This is called innovation; this is the beauty of ideas. Ideas differ; they are never same and never are compared with how bad your idea is then mine. Everybody is different from every another, and so does ideas and creativity differ too. Unless and until we don’t stop a student from copying and pasting others creative writings how will we judge student’s creativity? To make a student use his own mind and write about his own thoughts avoiding plagiarism is a must thing every university must do that is why I strongly agree that universities must have policies to avoid plagiarism.]]>
