Drosh traders protest police harassment of colleague
CHITRAL, Feb 13: The members of the trade union Drosh protested the alleged harassment of a colleague, Haji Sher Bahader, on the pretext of drug trafficking.
The protest meeting was held at Haider Abbas market under the chair of Haji Sher Wali Khan, the president of the trade
union. The participants said the Drosh police raided the shops of Haji Sher Bahadar and his brother Haji Sher Akbar (the owner of a women’s shopping center) accusing them of selling narcotics.
The traders said the police recovered no drug from the shops. They said the police damaged some milk packs and other edible items in the shops. They said the police had started harassing law-abiding citizens and traders at the behest of some blackmailers and mafia but never took action against the actual drug smugglers and traffickers.
They said the trade union was totally against drug trafficking and would cooperate with the police if the real culprits were arrested. They alleged that Subdivisional Police Officer Zafar Ahmad and the area AAC were using the official vehicles for hunting of ducks on the banks of Chitral River which was illegal and should be discouraged by the district administration.
Those who spoke on the occasion were Abdul Bari, Haji Gul Nawaz, Haji Shad Mohammad, Mufti Mahmoodul Hassan of JUI-F, Akmal Bhutto of PPP, Khush Nawaz, Haji Sher Bahadar, Haji Sher Akbar and others.]]>
