Lawyer from Chitral elected to KPBC

PESHAWAR, Nov 23: Chitral’s senior and prominent lawyer Abdul Wali Khan was among the 28 members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council (KPBC) who were elected for the 2015-19 term during polling held in all the 25 districts of the province on Saturday. abdulThe Khyber Pakhtunkhwa advocate general was the returning officer for the polls whereas senior civil judges in each district performed as presiding officers. The province had been divided into six zones for the polls. Zone one included Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera, zone 2 Swabi and Mardan, zone 3 Hangu, Kohat and Karak, zone 4 Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and Tank, zone 5 Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra and Battagram, and zone 6 included Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Upper and Lower Dir, Buner and Malakand. In Mingora, five members were elected to the KPBC from zone 6, including Saeed Khan from Swat, Haq Nawaz Khan from Shangla and Kohistan, Mohammad Sherin from Buner and Batkhela, Hazrat Rehman from Upper and Lower Dir and Abdul Wali Khan from Chitral, respectively. In Peshawar, 62 candidates were in the run for seven seats. Counting was in progress till filing of this report on Saturday night. Similarly, in the same zone four candidates contested for a single seat allocated to Nowshera and three candidates were in the run for another seat for Charsadda. In Mardan, as per unofficial results, Zahid Jamal Bacha of ANP and Azhar Rahim of PkMAP were declared winners by securing 242 and 195 votes, respectively.
