Villagers still unprotected against flooding

CHITRAL, Feb 14: A large number of people attended the inaugural ceremony of the construction work on a protection wall and excavation of the flood nulla in Jugoor village.
The funds amounting to Rs6.4 million for the project have been provided by an NGO while the local community will pool in 0.6 million rupees.
Muner Ahmad advocate and others on the occasion said that in August 2013 Jugoor was hit by floods causing damages to dozens of houses. As many as three children were also swept away by the floods. They said that flood victims are still waiting for the compensation from the district administration. They said that standing crops and houses in the village were also damaged in the flood but the affected people were not compensated by the government so far.
They said that the construction of the wall was very necessary for the protection of the valley. The excavation of the Jugoor Gol was also necessary because its surface had been raised by the floods. They also demanded more fund for the protection of the valley and payment of the compensation amount to the flood victims.–Gul Hamaad Farooqi
