Jirga called to devise strategy against NHA

CHITRAL, Jan 13: Civil society, traders and drivers unions here have threatened to launch a protest move against the refusal of the National Highway Authority (NHA) to allow the passage of over 200 trucks carrying food items to Chitral through the Lowari tunnel. nhaThe trucks are waiting for the permission of the NHA authorities to enter the under-construction tunnel into Chitral for the last three days. The traders union has called a grand jirga of all the civil society organizations on Tuesday to chalk out a strategy to press the government to solve the issue of using the tunnel by the public during the winter season. The president of the union, Habib Hussain Mughal, said the jirga will be a broad-based forum and will be in a position to devise a forceful strategy to compel the government to open the tunnel both for the passenger vehicles and the goods carrying trucks. He said the proposed plan will be to wheel jam strike followed by shutter-down strike across the district to bring life to standstill till the acceptance of the single point demand of opening the Lowari tunnel for the public.]]>
