KARACHI, Dec 19: His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslims, preside over the 26th convocation ceremony of the Aga Khan University (AKU) as its Chancellor here on Thursday.
The convocation has had great importance because the university is going to celebrate after crossing so many milestones including 30 years of its Charter, 30th Graduate Class of School of Nursing and Midwifery, 25th Graduate Class of Medical College and the 20 years of completion of the Institute of Education Development.
The grand convocation ceremony was declared open by Prince Karim Aga Khan, and Feroz Rasol, the President AKU, gave the welcome speech and highlighted the milestone and strategic mission of the university-hospital. Prince Karim Aga Khan in his speech covered the history of service in the past and the contribution of current institutions for the development in every horizon of life. His Highness said quality education and khidmat are part of our tradition.
Chief guest, Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad gave the convocation speech and highlighted the quality services of the Aga Khan University and its contribution to other social reforms. As the events were all about accomplishment, the awards distribution ceremony performed among different disciplines of education with enthusiasm, happiness, emotions and bright futuristic committed vision followed by pledge performed by Nurses.
Medical college students conferred degrees and diplomas after completing required course from the institutions and took oath of their profession. Master of education degree conferrals from Institute of Education Development were also a part of grant ceremony. Two students received degrees of Master of Arts in Islamic Civilization from UK. One of them belonged to Chitral.
An interesting student speech on behalf of students viewing five years of experience, ups and down and lot confronted during studies. Top position holders graduates received academic award with much big applause in the ceremony. Former Director Aga Khan Board was given the distinction award for his committed service to revive the education sector. Award of excellence and award in research and development had a part of convocation.
The Aga Khan University also expressed gratitude to ex- President Sham Qasim Lakha for his visionary services to education sector and three decade committed services to Aga Khan University. High security measures were taken during the convocation ceremony. The Stadium Road Campus, offices, classes and the clinics timings had been changed.
